Please join me in a celebration as I have completed another step in life here in Mexico... Yep, that's right... I ate 'Tacos de Sesos'... Or... Brain Tacos!! I've always heard about them... I've even seen them on the menus at restaurants... But, I've never had the privilage of eating them myself! Until tonight... I went to a dinner with some of the 'older' more mature CEB members- and they cooked dinner for us. We had tacos... and one that was on my plate was the Brain Taco! I thought I heard somone say that that is what it was... but, I just pretended that I heard the wrong thing and I it dipped in LOTS of Green Salsa. Well, as I was eating it- I thought it was potato... Alejandra asked me, "do you know what you are eating?!" Well, at that point it was certain... yep, it is brains! Everyone was looking at me... and they all asked- well, do you like it?! Honestly, it tasted like potatoes... I didn't even know it was brains! So, I of course said yes- and everyone went on as normal. I tried to not have the 'oh my gosh i'm eating brains' look on my face! Which I've learned to mask very well since moving here... I've eaten lots of fun things!
So... I guess tonight I feel smarter... now, I have more brains!!

VERY COOL!!!!!!
I've heard of a southern dish that I've never had the opportunity to try - scrambeled eggs and pig brians. For some reason it sounds good. So be honest, when they confirmed it for you (that you were eating brains) did your stomach do a flip-flop??

Reminds me of when I was eating menudo w/o knowing what it was. I called my wife who wasn't there at the time and said "Sweetheart, they've got me eating this red soup, menudo."
HER: How much have you eaten?
ME: Oh, about half of it.
HER: Eat two more bites.
ME: (eats two more bites) OK, what is it?
HER: Cow stomach!
ME: ...
HER: ... (giggle)
ME: No wonder it's so chewy!
Be careful about tacos de sesos from ambulatory carts/taco stands, though - my wife's friend got really sick from brain in Guadalajara.
